Doctor in Restorative Dentistry  programme is a part of 1+3 specialist training programme in restorative dentistry, following the completion of a one-year Master of Applied Oral Sciences (or equivalent) programme. Upon completion of this programme, the degree will be awarded to the candidates leading to the registration as a specialist in Restorative Dentistry.

The programme provides a comprehensive knowledge and training in the field of restorative dentistry, particularly in conservative dentistry, endodontology, fixed and removable prosthodontics, periodontology and implantology. Mode of teaching varies from lectures, seminars, journal clubs, case-based learning, problem-based learning, clinical sessions, practicals, laboratory work and research project. Students will be sent for clinical attachment at recognised local and overseas restorative dentistry facilities to broaden their clinical experiences.

Assessments will be carried out throughout the academic years via various continuous assessments, quizzes, clinical audit report, case reports, clinical logbook and professional examinations which includes written examination, clinical examination and VIVA VOCE. Candidates are required to pass all professional examinations and submitted the dissertation to be awarded with Doctor in Restorative Dentistry (DrResDent USIM).

Coursework and Full time only.

Duration:

Min 3 years / 6 semesters.

Max 5 years / 10 semesters.

Doctor in Orthodontic Dentistry programme is a coursework programme comprising of of theory, clinical and research. The tabulation of courses and professional examinations are as follows;

General Entry Requirements:

  1. Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS); or Doctor of Dental Surgery; or other dentistry equivalent qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Dental Council (MDC).
  2. Master of Applied Oral Science (MAOSc) with elective integrated restorative module or equivalent coursework master’s degree in dental science qualification as required by HEP. This degree must have a total Student Learning Time (SLT) ranging from 1600 – 2000 hours. A minimum of 800 – 1000 hours of this degree must include among others a preclinical restorative training component which contribute towards the specialty training.
  3. Registered with the MDC and holds current Annual Practising Certificate (APC) or registered with the dental regulatory body in another country and eligible to be granted a Temporary Practicing Certificate (TPC) by MDC.

Special Entry Requirements:

This requirement is the required criteria stated in the Pusat Pengajian Siswazah (PPS), USIM website https://cgs.usim.edu.my/admission-related/language-requirement/ endorsed by University Senate Meeting (Edition-66 No. 6/2011):

  1. Candidates are required to achieve a minimum level of band 4 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET); OR
  2. Minimum score of 213 in computer-based test (CBT), or 80 in internet-based test for ‘Test of English as a Foreign Language’ (TOEFL); OR
  3. Minimum overall score of band 6.0 for ‘International English Language Testing System’ (IELTS).

Applicant who does not fulfil any of these criteria shall be required to take and pass the University English Proficiency Test (UEPT) conducted by the University with minimum result of band 3.

Other Entry Requirements:

  1. A minimum of two (2) years clinical practice after basic degree excluding the Master training.
  2. Health and other requirements as required by HEP. Students must be tested negative from any blood-borne viruses and HIV during screening and must adhere to guidelines stated by professional authority.
  3. Satisfactory performance in an interview and test (if required) that are conducted by the Jawatankuasa Pemilihan Calon Siswazah Peringkat Sarjana dan Doktor Falsafah, Faculty of Dentistry, USIM
